faculae
A space weather–related term used to describe irregular patches of bright areas present in the solar photosphere visible in white light, more easily seen in the proximity of the Sun's limb (because of limb darkening). They are hotter than the surrounding photosphere (by several hundred kelvins) and their presence corresponds with concentrated magnetic fields, often in association with dark sunspots.
