geostrophic balance
Describes a balance between Coriolis and horizontal pressure-gradient forces.
Explicitly, and in which f is the Coriolis parameter, u and v the zonal and meridional components of velocity, x and y the zonal and meridional coordinates, p the pressure, and ρ the density.
