buoyancy length scale[edit | edit source]
A measure of the suppression of vertical turbulent motions by statically stable air.
Defined as: where σw is the standard deviation of vertical velocity, and N is the Brunt–Väisälä frequency. It is a useful length scale for the stable boundary layer.
