climatological network

A network of weather stations established to observe and collect climatological data, usually recording 24-hour precipitation amounts and the daily maximum and minimum temperatures at a specified time of day.

At a limited number of stations in climatological networks, records are made of additional data, such as evaporation, snowfall and snow depth, and soil temperatures at several depths.
