Hazen plotting position

For the rth ranked (from largest to smallest) datum from a sample of size n, the quotient

The Hazen plotting position is the original plotting position and has been recommended for use with lognormal distributions; however, it leads to excessively high return periods for large flows.

While it has many desirable mathematical properties, the Hazen plotting position produces biased estimates of pertinent statistics.
