Simple harmonic wave
From Glossary of Meteorology
simple harmonic wave
An oscillation translating with constant speed and amplitude, and represented mathematically by a trigonometric or complex exponential function.
Thus, or represents a simple harmonic wave of amplitude A, wavelength λ, frequency ν, and phase angle φ. In ocean wave studies, a simple harmonic progressive wave is an idealized wave characterized by constant speed of propagation and a straight crest of indefinite length.
