Low Rate Information Transmission

(Abbreviated LRIT.) A digital data dissemination service provided by the GOES, Meteosat, and MTSAT environmental satellites.

LRIT is an international standard for data transmission that replaces the analog WEFAX processing system in broadcasting meteorological data, imagery, charts and other environmental information for reception by low cost receiving systems.
