Transverse cirrus banding

transverse cirrus banding

Irregularly spaced bandlike cirrus clouds that form nearly perpendicular to a jet stream axis.

They are usually visible in the strongest portions of the subtropical jet and can also be seen in tropical cyclone outflow regions.
