field excursion associated with precipitation

(Abbreviated FEAWP.) A characteristic feature in electric field records directly beneath a thundercloud in which the electric field momentarily reverses polarity during a burst of intense precipitation.

The timescale for these events is of the order of minutes. The physical origins of the FEAWP are still unresolved.
