Geostrophic vorticity
From Glossary of Meteorology
geostrophic vorticity
The vorticity of the geostrophic wind.
If pressure is taken as the vertical coordinate and the variability of the Coriolis parameter is neglected, the geostrophic relative vorticity ζg is given by where g is the acceleration of gravity, f the Coriolis parameter, z the height of the constant- pressure surface, and ∇p2 is the isobaric Laplacian operator.
