Hybrid

hybrid

A four-port waveguide device used in microwave circuits having the property that a signal incident at one port is divided equally between two other ports, provided that the fourth port is terminated by a matched load.

A particular type of hybrid, known as a 90° hybrid, yields outputs that differ in phase by 90°.
