ketones

Family of organic carbonyl compounds of general formula RC(O)R, where the R represents alkyl groups (not necessarily the same).

Ketones are formed in the oxidation of most of the larger hydrocarbons. Their main atmospheric fate is reaction with hydroxyl radicals or photolysis in the near UV.
