Meteorological equator
From Glossary of Meteorology
meteorological equator
- The parallel of latitude of 5°N; so named because this is the annual mean latitude of the equatorial trough.
- (Also called equatorial trough.) The axis of the barotropic current that characterizes the low troposphere in equatorial regions.
This axis is marked by the presence of a convergence line (the intertropical convergence zone).
