Packed tower

packed tower

A pollution control device for reducing (scrubbing) sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions.

This device consists of a column or tower that is packed with absorption material such as sodium or calcium carbonate, which removes the SO2 from the flue gas as it passes through the tower.
