photochemistry
The study of the chemical and physical changes occurring when a molecule or atom absorbs light.
These can include photodecomposition, fluorescence, chemiluminescence, and quenching of the excited state. The atmosphere can be considered as a complex photochemical reactor, the chemistry of which is driven by the visible and ultraviolet radiation emanating from the sun.
