tide gauge benchmark
A stable benchmark near a gauge to which tide gauge datum is referred.
It is connected to local auxiliary benchmarks to check local stability and to guard against accidental damage. The tide gauge datum is a horizontal plane defined at a fixed arbitrary level below a tide gauge benchmark.
