triple correlation

A third-moment statistic found by the product of three perturbations (deviations from mean values) averaged over all observations.

This is used in turbulence theory to describe the turbulent transport of turbulent quantities. For example, the vertical turbulent flux of temperature variance is

, where w′ is perturbation vertical velocity, and T′ is perturbation temperature.
