Virazon
From Glossary of Meteorology
virazon
- (Also spelled birazon.) The very strong southwesterly sea breeze experienced where the coastal chains of the Andes Mountains descend steeply to the sea.
It sets in at about 10 A.M. and reaches its greatest strength at about 3 P.M. In Valparaiso, Chile, on summer afternoons it is so strong that it lifts pebbles in the streets. During the night it is followed by a light land breeze, the terral ("wind of the land").
- A westerly sea breeze of Spain and Portugal.
