vortex thermometer

A thermometer, used in aircraft, that automatically corrects for adiabatic and frictional temperatures rises by imparting a rotary motion to the air passing the thermal sensing element.

By proper design of the vortex-forming chamber, the true free-air temperature can be obtained over a wide range of air speeds.
