Manning equation

An equation relating the mean velocity of flow to channel characteristics.

It is expressed as

where, at a given section, V is mean velocity, n is the Manning's roughness coefficient (indicative of the resistance to the flow), Sf is the gradient of the total head line, and R is the hydraulic radius.
